FAQs
What's the Sunshine Bank?
We help to raise money for local charities by saying 'thanks' and 'well done!' to our friends.
We are a social network of people who share the good things we do in our daily lives. We earn virtual tokens of recognition called Lumins for posting the actions we take to look after ourselves, other people and our world. We gift Lumins to our friends to say 'thanks' and 'well done'. With our gift, we vote to decide how money that has been donated by local businesses gets shared between local charities.
What’s a Lumin?
A Lumin (from the word ‘luminosity’) is a virtual credit or token of recognition.
What’s a Lumin worth in the real world?
Lumins express a different kind of wealth – our hidden wealth. That is to say, the good we do, the recogniton we get for it, and the good we can expect in return. Lumins also attract donations from businesses. The more members share their positve actions and gift their Lumins, the more likely businesses will be to donate money to charities through the Sunshine Bank.
So how do you make money?
We don't, at the moment. We fund ourselves and benefit from the generosity and commitment of those involved in the project. We are currently piloting in Brighton & Hove with a view to bringing the Sunshine Bank to other towns and cities in the UK.
Why should I open an account?
To have fun. To say 'thanks' to your friends. To tell them 'well done!'. To share the good things you do to take care of yourself, other people and our world. To help to raise money for local charities in the process.
How much does it cost to take part?
Not a penny! Participation is completely free.
Lumin counter
Lumins are virtual tokens of recognition. They are awarded by the Sunshine Bank for each positive action a member shares (see the icon and figure for 'Action Posted' to the left of the counter) and they are gifted between members in recognition of their positive actions (see the icon and number to the right of the counter). The Lumin counter shows the total number of Lumins awarded and gifted by the Sunshine Bank community in realtime.
Donations
Three local businesses donated £1,000 in November, which members of the Sunshine Bank voted to allocate to five local charities. They met at an event in December to receive their cheques. A new round of fundraising started in December. If you are a business or charity and would like to participate, please contact us at: info@sunshinebank.co.uk.
